Robert Rubin, after a decade of working with and for Citigroup as counselor, advisor and chairman, finally got to sort of say he was sorry yesterday. You might ask why Rubin, a Secretary of the Treasury under Bill Clinton, would have to apologize for anything? Well maybe you forgot the economic meltdown, the bailout of Wall Street and the fact that you the taxpayer had to buy 27% of Citigroup because it was too big to fail. Maybe you forgot that during Rubin’s tenure at Citigroup the corporation lost hundreds of billions. Ok you forgot, but Rubin did not, and he said “We all bear responsibility for not recognizing this and I deeply regret that.” Yes, he regrets almost bankrupting America. But my question is, does he regret the $125 million he pocketed during the period?? Yes crime does pay.
